HTC Hero users in Europe now have the possibility to enjoy the features of Android 2.1 operating system on their devices. Announced for the first time back in January, when the new platform arrived on the market on Nexus One, and delayed at least once, the software update is now live for Hero users, at least this is what the HTC Taiwan support page shows.

For the time being, it seems that the Android 2.1 OS is set for availability only in the Taiwanese market, but, since HTC promised that the solution would come for all HTC Hero owners out there in June, it shouldn't be too long before it is released in additional markets. Details are still expected to emerge, but the good news is that the update process has already started.

HTC’s Android 2.1 build with HTC Sense is 3.31.751.1, which makes its initial roll-out on GSM HTC Hero units in Taiwan. In case users in other markets do not wish to wait for the official solution to be delivered to their devices, they have the opportunity to try out a custom rooted ROM, already cooked from the official build, as the guys over at XDA-Developers state.

In related news, we learn that HTC has delivered new software solutions for other Android-based phones too, including the HTC Desire and Legend, as well as the just released HTC EVO 4G. When it comes to the Desire and Legend, the company's support website informs on the availability of the new software, but does not offer specific info on what has been tweaked.

“After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.31.405.4 on HTC Legend and 1.21.405.2 on HTC Desire,” is what the aforementioned web page states.

As for the new HTC EVO 4G, it received its first software update during the first day of availability, it seems. The handset had some minor issues, which were corrected via the small update released for those who acquired it starting with Friday. According to reports on the web, the solution was meant to resolve an issue with the microSD card, while also patching a security hole that enabled users gain root access.
