Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just announced the release of a software update for one of its Facebook phones, the HTC Salsa.

HTC Salsa was unveiled to the world in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, along with the other Facebook phone from the company, namely the HTC ChaCha.

While the ChaCha already got a software update several weeks ago, HTC took its time before releasing it to Salsa as well.

However, now the update is being rolled-out to users, and the mobile phone will notify them on the availability of the new software, which will be delivered over the air.

“Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G,” the mobile phone maker notes on its support website.

Unfortunately, the handset vendor does not explain what enhancements the new software update is set to provide users with, but there should be various improvements related to the OS, as well as to the software loaded on the mobile phone.

The only thing that HTC notes in regard to what has been updated is: “Application and system enhancement.”

However, the company does explain that, following the update, users will see that their devices are running under software version 1.12.401.2.

“After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number),” the mobile phone maker explains.

Before proceeding with the update process, users should back up all data on their devices, to ensure that no important files are lost during the installation.

They should also consider downloading the new software for Salsa over a free Wi-Fi hotspot. If they have an unlimited data plan, downloading the new software over a 3G network is also recommended. Standard data connection charges might apply otherwise.
