HTC Desire, one of the hottest Android-based mobile phones the Taiwanese handset vendor HTC Corporation brought to the market during the ongoing year, is expected to receive an update to the Android 2.2 Froyo OS only in mid-September over at Orange UK.

The handset already started getting the solution in various European markets, but this applies only to unlocked versions of the phone, as carrier specific models would receive it at a latter time.

While other carriers in the UK market already started delivering the update for their Desire units, Orange would do this a little later than expected, a recent announcement from the company unveils.

It seems that mid-September would be the lucky time frame for Orange's Desire users, at least this is what a recent tweet from Orange's Conor Maples states.

“Android fans there has been a delay in receiving the 2.2 Froyo update from HTC, & we now expect it to be available mid-Sep. Apologies,” is what Maples announced.

Moreover, he delivered an update soon after, announcing the the delay is caused by HTC and not by Orange: “would like to point out the delay on 2.2 Froyo is not related to Orange services on the device.”

According to him, the upcoming Android 2.2 OS for Orange's HTC Desire should bring a smaller number of customizations than the 2.1 platform flavor came with: “as far as I know there will be less Orange customization on 2.2 than the existing 2.1.”

This is a rather interesting announcement, especially since it is made soon after Vodafone announced that the new Android 2.2 solution for its Desire units does not include a wide range of applications and customizations previously included with the device.

However, it still remains to be seen what exactly the solution would include in this area.

For the time being, Orange did not offer a specific date for when it would start updating the HTC Desire to Android 2.2, but it shouldn't be long before it does so.
