It looks like HTC had us all fooled again. We have reported over the past few days on the company’s 64-bit smartphone, the Desire 820, which was supposed to be the first of its kind.

HTC Desire 820 has been teased a few times and some of its specs have leaked online as well, but it appears that this is not really the first handset to be powered by a 64-bit chipset after all.

Even though we expected HTC to wait until IFA 2014 trade fair to unveil its new lineup of mid-range Android smartphones, the Taiwanese company decided that it would be better to go official with at least some of its upcoming devices more than a week ahead.

The first smartphone revealed by HTC that should have been introduced at IFA 2014 is the Desire 510. Even though the name suggests a budget-friendly handset in the Desire family, this is in fact the first smartphone announced that packs a 64-bit chipset.

Well, in fact, the Desire 510 is both a low-end smartphone and the first to include a 64-bit system-on-chip. This is probably the one thing that will differentiate it from other devices in the same price range.

While there are no details on pricing options, HTC has confirmed that the Desire 510 will be launched in Europe and Asia, as well as the United States through “select carriers.” It’s also worth mentioning that the smartphone will be available in both Terra White and Meridian Grey color options.

Specs-wise, HTC Desire 510 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset that accommodates a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit.

The smartphone packs 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, but users can further expand storage up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.

Furthermore, the Desire 510 sports a decent 4.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 854 x 480 pixels resolution.

On the back, the phone features a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording (no LED flash), while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Last but not least, HTC Desire 510 offers LTE support and runs Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

“Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets. People today should expect their smartphones to double as mobile entertainment hubs.”

“This means ensuring that they’re fully loaded with the latest movies, TV shows and albums, by taking advantage of the super-fast network speeds available. The HTC Desire 510 does this and more, making it the perfect mobile media device,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
