Coming to once again show that HP's Touchpad is being plagued by a surprisingly strong case of low demand, BestBuy was discovered to have reduced the price of both versions on sale by an extra $50.

HP truly does not seem to be having as much success at selling its tablet as it hoped, what with the repeated announcements and reports that the price was cut.

Originally, the plan was to have it up for order at $519.99 for the one with 16 GB of built-in flash storage and $619.99 for the 32 GB one.

Unfortunately, when the TouchPad did, at last, show up, it was not as well received as one would have expected.

Whether because the WebOS has too few apps or because of skepticism in regards to everything else, or both (or other reasons) the slate simply has not sold at the level of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (whose successor comes in October) or the (now banned in Australia and Europe) Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Seeing this, HP reduced the prices repeatedly, one retailer even holding a promotion where it was about $120 off.

Initially, a cut of $70 was done, but it looks like at least one store (BestBuy) has driven the figure even lower, by precisely $50.

At present, this puts the 16 GB TouchPad at $399.99 and the 32 GB one at $499.99, a mark that is lower than that of most, if not all, Android-loaded rivals. Compared to the initial selling point, these numbers are 25% more modest.

On a related note, not too much time has passed since the 4G-equipped iteration of the TouchPad surfaced on the Internet.

Seeing the performance of the regular one, however, one could say it is certain that the price tag of $700 will not endure for long.
