Esmertec K.K., the exclusive reseller of Esmertec Mobile and Multimedia software products in Japan, announced a deal with HI Corporation to integrate HI's 3D rendering engine MascotCapsule V3 and V4 on Esmertec's Jbed Java platform. The integration will provide mobile games developers with a powerful platform for creating high-quality 3D games compatible with a wide range of mobile devices.

Jbed is Esmertec's Java Virtual Machine platform for mobile handsets currently deployed in more than 120 million mobile handsets shipped all over the world. Jbed Advanced provides Java multitasking capabilities to CLDC / MIDP, extending the service capabilities of mass-market mobile phones. With Jbed Advanced it is possible to run several Java applications on a smartphone simultaneously and switch between them, a user being able for example to play a game on the mobile phone, while listening to his favourite song or uploading pictures in the background.

"We are excited to collaborate with HI. By integrating MascotCapsule at the high-performance Jbed platform, we are able to offer a unique platform which enables our customers to overcome today's mobile gaming barriers of fragmentation, time-to-market and high development costs," said Naoki Iizuka, President of Esmertec K.K.

MascotCapsule is the most commonly used 3D rendering engine in Japan and abroad for creating console-quality, high-speed 3D games on mobile handsets. MascotCapsule has been adopted by Japan's four carriers as well as carriers in the US, Korea and China; with the MascotCapsule series having been shipped with over 230 million handsets worldwide as of the end of December 2006. MascotCapsule V3 and its Java API (Application Programming Interface), com.mascotcapsule have been used to develop hundreds of mobile games worldwide. The latest release V4 is fully compliant with the Mobile 3D Graphics API for Java ME (JSR184) and OpenGL ES, extending the development potential for applications.

"As Java is becoming a very popular technology for developing 3D content for mobile handsets, the partnership with Esmertec K.K. will play a pivotal role for us," said Kazuo Kawabata, president and CEO of HI. "We look forward to a strong business relationship with Esmertec."
