And any other video format, for that matter...

Don't worry, there's no sudden shift of attitude from Sony, regarding their rivaling format, the HD DVD. It seems that an user who sure knows his way with PS3 consoles and code editing has managed to find a way to make any movie format playable on your PS3. Without further chatter we give you a neat tutorial on how to view HD DVD-s and any other video formats on your PS3 console. Check it out in the embedded video below!

In the meantime you might want to know that the Blu-ray has been "crushing" the HD DVD in Japan, at least when it comes to sales figures. 90% of all players sold were Blu-ray ones and it's interesting to notice that the PS3 consoles are not even included in these statistics. Seems that Sony's beloved format is gaining ground, at least in its home, as does the next-gen console that managed to even surpass the Nintendo Wii at Christmas time, due to the famous shortages.

The figures are coming straight from a study performed in over 2,300 electronic stores from Japan and guess what: HD DVD stood for only 4% of the players' sales in Sony's home country. Seems that nobody's digging this format after all, a trend probably started by Warner Bros, that decided to drop the HD DVD format in favor of the Blu-ray exclusively supported by the film-making giant. This decision didn't come as a tentative of "being cool", but rather reflected the actual state of the market.

For example, in the first 9 months of 2007, 2.6 million Blu-ray discs were sold, while HD DVD only managed to sell 1.4 million discs. That's pretty much all we need to know right now, as we're witnessing the end of the format war, clearly won by the PS3's standard format.
