Guild Wars 2 might not be a traditional MMO, but there are signs that it might be a challenge to the status quo when it launches, both in terms of mechanics used and in terms of content, with developers announcing that the game will offer more than 1,500 dynamic events when it is launched.

Colin Johansen, who is the lead content designer working at ArenaNet on Guild Wars 2, told Lazygamer that, “We’re looking at having around 1500 events happen, so its going to take people a long time to get through all of them. As for variation, we want each quest to be unique, so that’s why you’ll have specific objectives and tools with which to complete them.”

Dynamic events, as the name implies, are challenges that pop up without the need for players to visit quest givers or read any text, generated by the game engine based on a number of variables.

In Guild Wars 2, they can appear at any moment, some triggered by world exploration and some designed to surprise even the most veteran of players.

Johansen also talked about the difficulty level of the game, saying that it might be challenging and adding, “if you fight the Pirate Queen at her stronghold, with a small party, you’ll face off against her small army of undead skeletons. But if you want to gather a group of hundreds of players, then you’ll need to storm her base from the front, take down her towers and board a ship that has magical cannons that you can fire at her base, before taking on her army.”

The developers at ArenaNet are also working on a mechanics which allows players to affect all the battles by killing the most important enemy characters.

Guild Wars 2 will get a beta stage soon and does not yet have a launch date.

The game will not have a subscription system and will also require players to buy the boxed copy in order to get access to the entire game world.
