The developers at ArenaNet have revealed that they have added no less than 9 attributes to the character builds for the MMO Guild Wars 2, trying to offer more variety to the gamer when it comes to playing styles.

The development team also included 40 new traits that can be used by the various characters in the game in order to customize both their defensive and their offensive game.

Jon Peters, who is one of the leading designers working on Guild Wars 2, told the fan base that, “Two of our four primary attributes – toughness and power – were serving double duty. Toughness improved heals, while power improved damage done by conditions.

“This essentially left us with two offensive styles: do more damage, or get more critical hits and react to their effects. That wasn’t quite good enough.”

He added, “We wanted there to be at least four offensive play styles as well as more diversity of builds overall, so we added several new player attributes to mix things up.”

ArenaNet says that the four base attributes are shared by all the characters in Guild Wars 2 and increase as players level up while the other attributes only grow as players equip specific attributes linked to them.

The MMO will include eight professions and each of them will offer five traits to explore, with up to 30 points ready to be invested in each of them.

Even characters who reach the initial level cap will have only 70 traits points to invest, which means that players will have to create and develop multiple characters in order to see everything that a class has to offer.

ArenaNet is currently running a very popular closed beta stage for Guild Wars 2 and a full launch of the MMO on the PC is planned for later during this year.
