Arena.net has once again talked about the beta stage for its MMO Guild Wars 2, saying that it will happen before the end of this year and will have a big impact on when the game will finally be released.

Colin Johnason, who is the lead content designer working on Guild Wars 2 has told Eurogamer at the publications own expo event that, “We’re going to go into closed beta by the end of this year for sure. We’re in closed alpha right now. We’re going to go into closed beta by the end of this year. Based on the outcome of the closed beta, that will determine our open beta schedule. Based on the outcome of the open beta, that’s going to determine our release date.”

He also talked about the impact that the alpha and the beta stages will have on the final launch date for the game.

He added, “If we tear through the beta and everything’s super positive then obviously it’ll come out faster. And if we go into the beta process and we see things we want to change, then we have the luxury of having the time to be able to sit down and fix that stuff.”

Guild Wars 2 is eagerly awaited by the fan base which liked the fresh approach that Arena.net brought to the MMO space with the first game in the series.

The title can be played as a single player experience by those who are not interested with grouping up with other players but there are also features aimed at those who like to be part of big groups and tackle bigger challenges.

Guild Wars 2 will use a whole new game engine, which seems ready to deliver one of the best looking MMOs in the industry, and will allow players a wider array of choices when it comes to the character they want to play and its development.
