The new handset supports multiple Java applications simultaneously

Group Sense PDA Limited (GSPDA) announced the world's first multimedia feature phone powered by SavaJe OS, SavaJe Technologies Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME)-based open operating system (OS).

The new handset supports multiple applications simultaneously while consumer-oriented features include support for MIDI and MP3 ringtones, picture and video caller-ID and support for Java ME games and third party applications. Open OS security is addressed by the implementation of OMA-compliant Digital Rights Management (DRM), a secure key store, certificate and policy management.

The GSPDA's bar-designed multimedia handset features: 262k color TFT display, 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture, Bluetooth, SD memory card to store up to 2GB, MP3 audio player, MP4 video player, USB 2.0.

George Grey, President and COO, SavaJe Technologies, said ?SavaJe is very pleased to be working with GSPDA on the introduction of the first SavaJe OS-based commercially available handset. This program has demonstrated the flexibility and portability of the SavaJe OS platform, enabling the development of the handset in less than six months from commencing the project, including implementation of Chinese language support."

GSPDA and SavaJe plan to showcase the handset at 3GSM Barcelona in February 2006. Shipments to both European and Asian markets are expected to follow in the second quarter of 2006.
