The phone you can throw away without worrying about the effects on the environment

As we already know, mobile phones and over 80% of the appliances we use are not environmentally friendly. This means that, when you have to throw them away, they are not biodegradable, which is not a thing that helps Mother Earth too much. On the contrary.

It seems that Sony Ericsson really cares for the environment we live in, and so should we. As such, the company announced earlier this week a concept phone named GreenHeart. This peculiar project focuses on making a phone that is environmentally sustainable throughout its entire life cycle. Thus, the GreenHeart was born.

This handheld is built entirely from recycled plastic and bio-plastic, and uses a Zero Charger. How did they do it? Well, the housings are made out of bio-plastic, the keys of recycled plastic and the manual is a HTML based e-manual, instead of coming in printed form. The packaging is, of course, also environmentally friendly.

Let's take a look at the green Zero Charger as well, which was developed along with the phone. As we all know, most, if not all, the chargers on the market also consume power if left in the outlet without a phone connected to them. This Zero Charger is an experimental model that has a built-in switch that makes sure that, when you unplug your phone, the charger will go out and will consume only 1% of the electricity that a normal plugged-in phone charger would normally consume when not used.

Perhaps the GreenHeart phone is not as good looking as the iPhone or the Nokia N96, or as SE's own Xperia, but that should not be a real issue, since there are far uglier devices on the market. The good part is, though, that if this concept does become a reality, it will make it possible for us to throw the phone without worrying that we'll harm the environment, which is a really green and great thing. Plus, with the Zero Charger, it is a certainty that the electricity bill will be considerably smaller.
