Gran Turismo 5, one of the most anticipated racing games ever, has a massive optional installation on the PlayStation 3's hard drive, which will require 10 GB of space and can take up to 50 minutes to complete.

PlayStation 3 owners that are a bit tight on hard drive space needn't worry though, as the game will still run with a basic install of 256 MB, but expect increased loading times and a downgrade in terms of experience.

If you have the necessary hard disk space, then be prepared to wait around 50 minutes for the game to install 6.4 gigabytes of data and, as you're playing, another 3.6 GB which will sit nicely on your storage medium.

Don't go thinking this is just wasted space, however, as Gran Turismo 5 has around 1,000 cars (as seen in our two-part car list series), 74 tracks, and gameplay modes ranging from regular street racing to circuits, karts, Nascar or rallies, so you can expect that not all of this data can be streamed from the Blu-ray disc to the console immediately.

Besides the massive install, Gran Turismo 5 will also have quite a few new features, including a completely customizable dashboard view, in order to see as much of the circuit as possible, as well as tire and fuel depletion, so that you can actually feel the wear and tear of your tires and maintain a frugal attitude during the race so that you don't run out of gas.

The game has been a long time coming, and was even delayed a couple of times so that Polyphony Digital, the studio developing the series, could have enough time to polish everything up and deliver one of the most anticipated games of the year.

For those that lost hope in the game ever coming out, you'd better keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday, when Sony will finally launch Gran Turismo 5 all over the world, exclusively on its Playstation 3 console.
