Donut and Android 2.0 are not the same, dev says

It seems that Android enthusiasts will soon have a great reason to rejoice, as the code for the upcoming Donut flavor of the Android operating system has already been sent to developers. According to the latest news on the web, the upcoming iteration of the platform has been designed to work on all existing handsets, including the T-Mobile G1, HTC Magic, HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy.

As already expected, the soon-to-come Android update will sport a wide range of new and attractive features, such as multi-touch support, universal search, text-to-speech, automated backups and a redesigned camera app, along with a series of other improvements, it seems. Basically, Donut will be not only sweet, but much sweeter than Cupcake.

Along with the aforementioned enhancements for the platform, the code for Donut seems to have also showed that a wide range of widgets would come to Android-based mobile phones, including a home screen that would enable users to move through options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, screen brightness and more.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that it comes with CDMA radio support too, which means that Google's operating system will soon be included in the offering of more carriers. Sprint’s Dan Hesse had already announced some of the operator's plans to add such devices in the lineup, so the support for these frequencies was somehow expected.

One more thing that should be mentioned about Donut is that, according to some developers, it is not the Android 2.0 that we were all expecting. Although it comes to Android-powered mobile phones as one of the major updates for the OS, it seems that Donut is only a line of code that's being actively developed, and Android 2.0 should include a lot of changes from that code. One way or another, a major update is rushing towards Android phones, so stay tuned to learn what exactly it will deliver.
