Not everyone can wear a white gown, except maybe for Nicole Kidman

One fashion rule that is completely out of style for quite some time now is “Never wear white after Labor Day”. Luckily, there are many examples to prove that white is in fact a year-round color, and that the white December clothes you've been wearing are not a fashion crime, but a fashion fine. Still, there's no doubt that the color doesn't suit everyone - funny enough, when it comes to white, you're not actually choosing what to wear, but you're “the chosen-one” (or not). The white issue is more than the perfect gown, it is the general effect of the combination of color, skin and make-up.

At the London premiere of her latest movie, Nicole Kidman looked just fabulous in her L'Wren Scott knee-long white dress, paired with golden Louboutin mid heels. She is the best in taking one simple, classy, piece of clothing, and turning it into a veritable fashion statement, only with some discrete changes on the red carpet. Still, it is the hot red lipstick that completely transforms her from a very attractive woman into a fashion icon. As the button trimmed frock is the fifth she has worn from the 2009 spring collection designed by Scott, who is also her personal stylist, her future appearances are still to be watched.

On the other hand, white seems not to be such a fortunate choice for Jennifer Westfeldt at a recent New York movie release – her strapless dress only succeeded in making her look all washed out. It must have been the increased amount of white sticking to the retina – white dress, white tights, even white jewelry and pale make-up. The shoes didn't do a great job in saving her outfit from being absolutely boring either.

It's quite obvious that Snow White has got some competition, but one should remember that her beauty resides in the dazzling color contrasts of her traits, not in her skin and clothes.
