CD Projekt is announcing that Good Old Games, its online service which aims to offer customers DRM free classic titles at discount prices, is now entering open beta. The company is best known for launching the role playing game The Witcher. The closed beta period which just ended has seen more than 10,000 people trying Good Old Games, which is quite a number.

Two more publishers have now been added to the list of contributors to the service. Strategy First plans to release classics like Sacred Gold, Jagged Alliance and Disciples of God, while Pluto 13 will offer its Gothic role playing games. There will probably be 50 to 100 games available when the service launches.

All the videogames which can be downloaded from Good Old Games are “optimized” in order to make sure that they run OK on modern gaming PCs, with Windows XP and Vista and, where it is available, the customer also gets “bonus content”. At the moment, titles from Codemasters and Interplay are in the catalog of the service and there will be more partnerships added in the coming weeks and months.

Adam Oldakowski, who is the managing director of GOG.com, stated that “We’re elated to welcome these new companies to the GOG.com catalogue. It’s a great demonstration of their commitment to gamers, and we’re sure that our extremely devoted community will welcome Strategy First with open arms, and will have a great time revisiting the immersive world of Gothic as the Open Beta begins”.

He also says that the initial beta, which was closed to the wider public, showed the people behind the project that there is a real interest in getting games that are out of print or very hard to find. Oldakowski says that “The success of the Early Access Beta showed us that there is huge demand for DRM-free classic PC games, and it helped us to prepare the site for the public launch. We are endlessly grateful to the users for their support and assistance”.
