The online mode in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded brings quite a lot of interesting things

Activision is pretty certain that this week's GoldenEye 007: Reloaded shooter will be able to attract quite a lot of customers, largely because it has the appeal of the James Bond brand, which draws in non-gamers, but also because it's a remake of the original GoldenEye 007, that delighted so many players back in 1997 when it appeared for the Nintendo 64.

Activision already released a remake of the original GoldenEye 007 last year, for the Nintendo Wii, but it's now getting ready to debut a newer and improved version this week, in the form of the Reloaded edition.

Besides the single-player campaign from last year's game, as well as the new MI6 Ops missions, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded also has a multiplayer mode with support for up to 16 players, that needs to compete with the array of other shooters that are now being released.

Talking with CVG, the producer of the game, James Steer, confirmed that GoldenEye 007: Reloaded has quite a few aces up its sleeve.

"Yeah, obviously it's a competitive environment," said Steer in regards to the crowded shooter market. "But we think it's because we have Bond and because we have classic characters and different modes and the nostalgia element."

"We think there's something different there to offer to people, who'll be playing it and enjoying it for different reasons than why they play those other games. We've got high hopes, it's a tough area, but because it's Bond, because it's a popular franchise, we hope people will respond to it."

The developers at Eurocom also added a few new features to the game's online mode as opposed to the Nintendo Wii edition from last year, including two new gameplay modes, Escalation and Golden Gun, as well as new maps and weapons that can be used when fighting online against others.

GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is released tomorrow, November 1, in North America, and on November 4, in Europe, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
