The game is based on the Godzilla film franchise. Like its predecessors, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee and Godzilla: Save the Earth, it will be developed by Pipeworks and published by Atari. It will be released for the DS, Wii and PSP. The new title will be Godzilla: Unleashed.

The new game is going to take full advantage of all the platform's different features as Cyril Voiron, Atari Europe's marketing director stated according to Eurogamer: "The iconic Japanese giant goes from strength to strength, taking the franchise in new directions not least with the unprecedented dynamic control afforded by the unique Wii controller." Not much information is available at the moment but in order to know what to expect, here's a little something about the last Godzilla game.

In the single-player game, scientists have cracked Godzilla's genetic code from samples obtained during the Vortaak invasion and have refined the code to grow super-enriched Godzilla-Matter (a virtually indestructible substance). The Vortaak learn of the Godzilla Matter and strike Monster Island in an attempt to steal G-Cells.

As Godzilla (the player) awakens, he tries to fight and stop the UFOs from stealing G-Cells, and to free his fellow monsters from captivity. Throughout the game's missions, Vorticia sends waves of monsters, UFOs, mind-controlled military and earth-threatening devices at Godzilla. The player must fight them back and find the hidden G-Cells before the UFOs can steal them. A variety of multiplayer options were available: head-to-head, three- or four-player free-for-all, or team up for two-on-two combat.

Pipeworks indicated that Godzilla: Unleashed is being built from the ground up and is specifically designed with the Wii controllers scheme in mind. Other features will include WiiConnect24 support for downloading purposes. This is all we know so far.
