As long as the PS2 is viable, so is the GH series

The PS2 is keeping a good reputation even though competition is big and it's "evil twin," the PS3, is in the picture. Guitar Hero is one of the reasons, as the game's popularity ensures the continuing of the series. People love it so much that it doesn't even matter to them what platform they are playing it on. As long as the game works fine, I don't see any problem with having to play it on the PS2 and not on the new PS3.

Dusty Welch told GamesIndustry that "the PS2 was one of the top selling platforms in 2006, and every indication from Sony is that they will continue to manufacture and market the platform aggressively in 2007 and 2008."

So, the Guitar Hero series will go on but original developer Red Octane will no longer be involved with the series as the franchise will be handed to Tony Hawk, developer at Neversoft. Welch explains: "At the moment, we?re still working with Red Octane on certain projects until completion, though moving forward, Neversoft will be taking over the development duties for the Guitar Hero franchise."

He also states that the reason behind this radical decision is a good, solid one, as Red Octane didn't just take stories and rumors about Neversoft's successes in consideration when they handed out the franchise, but actually tried out some of their work in order to make an impression. They're confident now that the Guitar Hero series is in good hands and that Neversoft has the ability to make the next installment for the series.

As some of you know, there is a 360 version of the game on the way too, and don't worry, it hasn't been canceled, as some may have thought reading the headline. It's still for due out this spring.
