Besides presenting an array of videos and games during its E3 2012 press conference, Sony also pinned a release date on the eagerly awaited God of War: Ascension, confirming that gamers will be able to once again hack and slash their way alongside Kratos on March 12, 2013.

God of War: Ascension was revealed to the world earlier this year and quite a few details were presented by Sony, its publisher, and its Santa Monica developer.

Now, at E3 2012, the two companies slapped a release date on the new hack and slash experience, confirming that Kratos will be ready for action on March 12, 2013, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

What’s more, the game is now available for pre-order, both as a standard version but also as a special Collector’s Edition, which includes all sorts of items, chief among which being a collectible 8-inch Kratos statue.

“We are pleased to announce a truly special Collector’s Edition again for God of War: Ascension. We know you’ve been asking for the ultimate collectible, a Kratos statue, that will be the prized 8” centerpiece of this edition. The CE is also jam-packed in a premium steel book game case, with the official game soundtrack (digital version), a PS3 dynamic theme and PSN avatar pack, double XP points for multiplayer (more on that later), and a DLC pass to unlock all future DLC releases at no additional cost,” the game’s developer said.

While it includes all of these impressive items, the Collector’s Edition costs just $79.99 (around €63). You might want to pre-order as soon as possible, however, as this special version of God of War: Ascension is limited in number.

All pre-orders will receive an extra reward, according to Sony, in the form of a special Mythological Heroes Multiplayer DLC pack, which is available at all retailers around the world.
