Crystal Dynamics, the studio known for the Tomb Raider action adventure series, has confirmed that it's just hired God of War writer and director Cory Barlog, who will help the studio with the upcoming reboot for the Tomb Raider series, as well as with an unannounced project.

Cory Barlog impressed back at Sony Santa Monica, where he helped David Jaffe create the God of War series and led the production of God of War 2.

After the project was done, Barlog decided to try out some new things, chief among which was a game project based on the Mad Max series of movies, which was being developed by Avalanche Studios.

Now, while we haven't heard anything concrete about the Mad Max game, it seems that Crystal Dynamics has managed to scoop up Barlog as it's just confirmed that the director will now work for the studio based in San Francisco.

"Crystal has pulled together some of the best teams in the industry to deliver against upcoming projects and future IP," said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio. "Cory's heritage in building industry-defining action adventure titles, together with our focus on delivering quality character-driven blockbuster entertainment, makes Cory a tremendously exciting addition to the team."

According to the studio, Barlog will help the team put the finishing touches on the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, which is set to appear towards the end of the year.

Besides the impressive looking action adventure game, Barlog is also going to lend his expertise on the studio's next project, which was teased at the end of last year.

Expect to hear some more details about the new Tomb Raider game in the near future, while this unannounced game is set to finally be revealed after work on Lara Croft's new adventures are complete.
