SilverStone already addressed the HTPC market by unleashing the latest Nitrogon series low profile cooler, so GlacialTech decided it would see to the needs of a different consumer base. Nevertheless, the latter still managed to stay within the so-called limits of affordability when it designed the Igloo Alaska. This new product is, basically, an entry-level cooling solution that supports central processing units from both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.

The heatsink has a copper base that draws heat out of the CPU. Said heat is then led away and into the fin array through six 6mm copper heatpipes with nickel coating, The fin array itself is also unique, as it has a hexagonal honeycomb design that not only reduces noise, but also lessens air resistance and, thus, improves heat dispersion. As for the airflow itself, it is produced by a 120mm entering bearing fan whose rotary speed oscillates between 700 (±300) and 1600 (±250) RPM. All in all, the product measures 130 (W) x 101 (L) x 156 (H) mm and weights 740 grams.

“As a total thermal solution provider, GlacialTech is committed to bringing increased value to customers in a quiet working environment. The Alaska is the next step in your evolution to an ultimate light weight, low cost CPU cooler for your system. […] Having acquired ISO 9001 and 14001, GlacialTech commits itself to using green materials for product design and construction and to perfecting green manufacturing processes in manufacturing products.” states the official announcement.

The GlacialTech Igloo Alaska is easy to install and is compatible with not just socket LGA775, 1156 and 1366 CPUs from Intel, but also AM2 and AM3 chips from Advanced Micro Devices. It should come out soon, bundled with the IceTherm II thermal compound. Unfortunately, pricing details have not been disclosed, but considering the 'affordable' trait, it shouldn't be very high.
