Towards the end of August, keepers at Edinburgh Zoo announced that, as far as they could tell, a female panda living in captivity at this facility was pregnant.

Recent news on the topic says that, unfortunately, Tian Tian has miscarried.

Thus, based on the female panda's behavior and on hormonal signs, vets have concluded that Tian Tian was successfully inseminated, but lost her baby shortly before delivery.

“Timings are difficult to pinpoint at this moment, but we had a meeting this morning where Tian Tian’s behavior and hormone results were reviewed and have come to the conclusion that it is very likely she has lost the pregnancy,” Chris West with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland explained in a statement, as cited by The Telegraph.

“Such a loss has always been in our minds as a very real possibility, as it occurs in giant pandas as well as many other animals, including humans,” he went on to say.

Presently, Tian Tian is being kept in an isolated enclosure, and visitors to the zoo are not allowed to see her. The panda will go back on public display towards the end of this week, after she recovers from this experience.
