In a move that will certainly not sit well with the fans of “Ghost Whisperer,” ABC, which co-owns it with CBS, has refused to pick it up and save it from the death CBS sentenced it to. The executive producers for the show confirm for Michael Ausiello of The Ausiello Files that, despite rumors to the contrary, the show will not be getting a new lease on life.

Confirmation of the cancelation came a few days ago, when CBS Entertainment head-honcho Nina Tassler said that, no matter how upset fans would be, the harsh reality in television was that ratings dictated the fate of a show. In the case of “Ghost Whisperer,” they were simply not good enough to warrant another season on the air, Tassler said in more or less words. She did not exclude the possibility, though, that the show be picked up by ABC and thus get another season.

The bad news is that this was only wishful-thinking, for ABC is not interested in the series. “Ghost Whisperer has officially crossed over. The long-running Jennifer Love Hewitt drama – which was axed by CBS last week – will not be jumping to ABC after all. Executive producers Ian Sander and Kim Moses confirmed the news via the following statement: ‘After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future’,” Ausiello reports.

While a rep for ABC was not immediately available for comment, fans should not harbor any false hope about the fate of the show, the report seems to suggest, for it’s a done deal if the producers have confirmed it. This comes to contradict a report of a few days ago, which had it that negotiations for “Ghost Whisperer” to move to ABC were almost final, with all parties involved being happy with how they were going. Even more, the only thing that was missing was an official confirmation, it was said at the time.

“Jennifer Love Hewitt’s spooky TV series Ghost Whisperer has been brought back from the dead – TV executives at ABC have given the show a lifeline. The long-running drama was axed last week (ends 21 May 2010) as part of a sweep by executives at CBS. But Hewitt’s co-star and ex-boyfriend Jamie Kennedy has revealed there is still ‘life’ in the program after ABC chiefs expressed interest in picking up Ghost Whisperer for its future schedule. He says, ‘They are talking about it, so that’s cool. We haven’t exactly gone into the light, we haven’t crossed over, but we’ve got some life’,” a report on IMDB said, as we also informed you.
