Getac UK, one of MiTAC subsidiaries, has just announced the upcoming availability of its 7-inch rugged slate, which is aimed at end users, the Z710.

Touted the smallest and most robust Android tablet on the market, Getac Z710 has been designed to withstand five feet drops, water and dust ingress and received IP65 certification.

However, there’s more to it, as the tablet also boasts rugged military grade MIL-STD-810G rating, which allows it to operate in the coldest and hottest of environments, from -30 degrees Celsius up to + 60 degrees Celsius.

According to the manufacturer, the Z710 tablet is mainly targeting consumers working across a number of sectors including field service, utility, construction and automotive.

Our engineers have designed, developed, and built the unit with end users in mind, and having ownership of that ensures we have control of quality throughout the entire process. We’re offering a solution that Getac customers can rely on,” said Peter Molyneux, vice president of Getac UK.

Software-wise, the Z710 runs Google’s Android platform, though Getac officials have yet to reveal which version. Hopefully, this will not be just another 7-inch Gingerbread tablet.

Getac’s Z710 tablet comes with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display and provides users with multiple connectivity and communication options, including USB, microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Furthermore, the tablet packs 16GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, an HD front-facing camera, a built-in GPS receiver, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.

We are looking forward to working with our customers to offer the best rugged solutions wherever they operate and have combined the power of tablet computing with Getac’s proven rugged manufacturing technology, meaning the unit can operate in the harshest of conditions,” added Molyneux.

Getac Z710 is expected to arrive in stores sometime in 2012 for a price that will be disclosed in due time.
