The tablet is available via a special corporate site

After realizing that its BlackBerry PlayBook is not competitive enough to match other tablets in its price range, Research in Motion decided to introduce various discounts and promotional offers meant to attract more buyers.

It all started with the Black Friday promotion, when RIM slashed the price of the 16GB and 32GB PlayBook to $199.99 (150 EUR) and $299.99 (225 EUR), respectively.

Fortunately, this seemed to be the right price for the tablet, as multiple retailers reported they sold out the BlackBerry PlayBook, such as Best Buy. Still, the retailer confirmed that it would receive more units in the near future.

According to the folks over at The Verge who cite sources close to the matter, RIM thinks that $99.99 is too much for the PlayBook, so the company decided to reduce the price of its 16GB, 32GB and 64 GB PlayBook tablets even more.

However, the offer is only available for RIM’s employees who can now purchase the 16GB version of the tablet for only $99 (75 EUR). The handset maker also offers the 32GB model for $149 (110 EUR), as well as the 64GB version for $199 (150 EUR).

This offer is available through a special corporate site and is limited to up to eight units per employee, the folks over at The Verge claim.

Although RIM has yet to confirm the availability of the offer the company has run multiple promos lately, which are meant to spread the PlayBook love among its customers.

One such promotion was announced last week and included a free 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook tablets to all enterprise customers who upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 5.0 until December 31.

Even though Best Buy recently stated that it has sold out RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook, the tablet can still be purchased at a discounted price from other major retailers, including Radio Shack and Walmart.
