Good Old Games, the digital distribution channel created and maintained by CD Projekt, the guys who developed role playing titles such as The Witcher, announce having signed an agreement with Epic Games for bringing most of the Unreal series to the service.

The following titles will be included in the deal: Unreal Gold, which offers the initial game alongside the Return to Napali expansion pack, Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition, Unreal II: The Awakening Special Edition and Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition. All the above mentioned games will be offered DRM free and CD Projekt promises that they plan to tweak the titles so that they will run smoothly on Windows XP and Vista. There is also talk of including some bonus material with each game, although details are not available at the moment.

Adam Oldakowski, the managing director of Good Old Games, stated that “Epic Games redefined the first-person shooter with the Unreal series, and we’re very happy to welcome them to the growing list of companies that share our vision of digital distribution. We know that a lot of gamers have been waiting for new deals, and we’re sure that the Unreal games will satisfy their lust for alien blood and intense multiplayer action… DRM-free, of course”. The Good Old Games service is currently in open beta.

There's a clear nostalgia factor that will attract some fans of the first person shooter genre to the first entries of the Unreal series but the biggest draw is likely to be Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition, which is still one of the most adrenaline filled multiplayer shooters a gamer can get his hands on. We sometimes play it around the office and it’s quick and tactical enough to provide rounds filled with excitement and a lot of inter office screaming.
