New details on the upcoming MMORPG

The people at DC Comics have certainly been very busy during these months. After having worked hard with the team at Midway in order to create the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe fighting game, now they are already collaborating with Sony for their future MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) DC Universe Online.

Since fans were a bit disappointed by the Midway title, finding that the comic book characters had nothing to do with the videogame ones, the team at DC Comics hopes this new online game will prove otherwise. It promises to give players the chance to become well known superheroes such as Superman or Batman, but also less known heroes like the Metal Men or Doom Patrol.

Geoff Johns, a comic book writer and member of the team working with Sony for DC Universe Online, recently talked with MTV Multiplayer about this new game. He went on to say that the game might appear in 2010, or late 2009, if no problems appeared, and that it would give players unique capabilities and let them create their personal superhero avatar.

“It launches I think in early 2010, it could be late 2009. I’ve written the overall story and the path that gets you into the game and the areas of the universe and how to explore them, but not every line of dialogue. Lots of gamers create their own characters. I like the idea that your secret identity is really outside the computer. You’re a normal guy, and then when you log on to the game, you become the superhero.”

These are really interesting statements from the comic book creator. A lot of DC fans might be interested in this game when it launches, especially as it isn't a PlayStation 3 exclusive, appearing also on the PC platform. Let's just hope that the DC and Sony teams will offer us a great experience playing this game.
