New toys and possible game in the works

LEGO toys are starting to get more and more connected with the gaming industry in the recent years. After having seen games based on famous franchises, like LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, even LEGO Batman, it now seems that the deal is going both ways, as we will see a LEGO toy line based on the famous Prince of Persia franchise next year.

While it isn't based on the Prince of Persia series of video games, the toy line will be made in order to mark the silver screen debut of the movie based on the famous game series. As you may know, in May next year, the movie based on the adventures of the young Middle Eastern prince will appear, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as the lead character.

The toy line will come a month earlier, in April, and, despite the somewhat sensitive licensing rights, a LEGO Prince of Persia video game might also be making its appearance. Hopefully, Ubisoft, the holder of the video game rights to the franchise, will make a deal with Traveller's Tales, the creators of all the other LEGO video games.

“We are thrilled to team up with Disney, another of the world's premium brands for families with children,” said Jorgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO LEGO Group. “When two brands who share similar values bring their franchises together - in this case a timeless play pattern with some of the industry's most beloved stories and characters - and combine their access to families, retail strength and marketing power, amazing things can happen. We can't wait to launch the first three lines and look forward to exploring all of the ways in which we bring the wonderful world of Disney to life in LEGO form.”

The deal between Disney and LEGO isn't limited to Prince of Persia though, as toy lines based on two other popular franchises from the famous company, Toy Story and Cars, will also be made available as brick toys.

While this isn't a confirmation that the next game made by Traveller's Tales will be a LEGO Prince of Persia, it is more plausible now than a Harry Potter or a Rock Band one, as certain rumors speculated.
