Singer George Michael was rushed to the hospital after sustaining several injuries, including one to the head, in a one-vehicle accident on the M1 in Hertforshire, ITV informs.

Though initial reports said that the singer had only suffered minor cuts and bruises, word got out afterwards that he had in fact sustained an injury to the head.

He was airlifted to the hospital and police are now investigating to determine the causes of the accident.

Traffic on the M1 was halted for one hour as Michael was taken to the hospital and the wreckage was cleared.

“[He] sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilization and immobilization by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to hospital for further care,” a spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service tells ITV.

Earlier on, a rep for the singer explained in a statement that he was “fine” and that the injuries were minor. The publicist too confirmed that no other vehicle had been involved in the crash.

Michael’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz is sticking to the same story: he is “perfectly fine,” so fans have absolutely no reason to worry.

“Of course I was worried, but I have spoken to him, and he is good,” Fawaz says in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

“He suffered a few bruises, but there is nothing to worry about. He's due out soon, but I don't know when. I have no idea what happened. I wasn't there,” he adds.

In July 2010, Michael was involved in another incident, in which he crashed his car into a London shop. Reports at the time said he seemed heavily intoxicated.

One year earlier, he had smashed into the back of a lorry but denied that alcohol or drugs might have impaired his driving abilities and thus caused the crash.

Police are now to determine the causes of this most recent accident, so keep an eye on this space for details.
