Not that it comes as a surprise, but Disney is cooking up more installments in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise: details for a fifth are currently being ironed out, while Geoffrey Rush, who plays Cpt. Barbossa, confirms that fans should expect more in the future.

Of course, the idea of making a “Pirates” film centered only on Johnny Depp’s character, Cpt. Jack Sparrow, was to reboot the franchise and start afresh.

So, it was expected for Disney to think ahead and beyond “On Stranger Tides,” as earlier rumors also had it.

With Johnny Depp saying that he’d reprise the part as many times as the audience wants him to, Geoffrey Rush brings further confirmation that the “Pirates” franchise will continue sailing for many years to come.

“I don’t think we’re going to outrun Bond,” the Australian actor tells PopEater in a brand new interview, when asked if he can see himself in the same part for the next 40 years or so.

“They're up to 23 so they’ve really set the bar. Relatively we’re young kids on the block,” Geoffrey adds.

On a more serious note, he believes “Pirates” will be around for many years to come because there are many possible angles to the story that have not yet been explored.

“Well nothing’s official but there is a fifth chapter being developed and as the hardcore fans will know if they hang around till after the credits roll, there’s a little teaser, cliffhanger which I think opens up the potential for a pretty damn fine movie,” he explains.

“It’s a very big theme, piracy. They were around in that tradition for about 80-odd years and as you see in this film a lot of the nastier, cleverer ones got themselves into working for the different crown heads of Europe as privateers which is what happens to Barbossa, so between the mythology and the legends and the history and geographical places in the world, there's still a bucketload of stories to tell,” Rush adds.

He also jokes that a future film may bring him to work closer with Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz, the latest addition to the franchise as the lively Angelica – and with whom Rush didn’t have that much interaction because of their parallel storylines.

For the time being, this is just wishful thinking on his side.
