14 DAY TRIAL // General Mobile, a relatively new US mobile phones manufacturer, has officially announced its entry on the European market. The European debut was accompanied by five new products that were showcased at this year's CeBIT: the dual-SIM handsets DSTW1, DST22, DST33, and DST3GCOOL, and GM500, a phone that resembles a wristwatch.
Addressed to business users, the DSTW1 is a PDA running on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, featuring EDGE and GPRS connectivity; OCR Business card reader, and the usual range of productivity tools. The Pocket PC is powered by two processors, and comes with 256 MB of ROM, 64 MB of RAM, and a big 2.8 inch QVGA display.
The second product, targeting both business and casual users, is the DST3GCOOL, a handset that offers high-speed transfer speeds via UMTS networks, a 2.0 Megapixel camera and a secondary video call camera, 2.2 inch QVGA display and 64 MB of memory.
The last two phones from the dual-SIM series are the DST22, DST33, which follow in the footsteps of the acclaimed DST11 model. The mobile phones can be equipped with two SIM cards from the same, or different network suppliers, with the possibility to use a foreign SIM card. The DST22 includes a numeric keypad, a 2.4 inch touchscreen, and offers GPRS connectivity; while the DST33 is more of a low-budget phone, and comes with a 2.0 inch display, GPRS and FM radio.
The most innovative phone of the new products is certainly the GM500, a GSM handset in the shape of a wristwatch. In spite of its miniature size, the phone has a 1.5 inch touchscreen, offers GPRS, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 128 MB of memory and supports all the standard phone features such as phone calls, SMS and MMS.
General Mobile will be represented in Europe through its exclusive distributor HSWCOM Telecommunications.
