GRAW 2 vs. Gears of War

As Epic's Gears of War just reached its two million units sold landmark, some are still trying to badmouth it. And we're not talking about some lonely loser-like gamer, but a full-pledged game developer. In a CVG interview, GRAW 2 content producer, Olivier Dauba, trashes the competition.

His exact words are: "it's an absolutely awesome ten minutes" but "if you play 20 minutes it doesn't bring anything new". He continues by explaining that, with GRAW 2, his development team has tried to go beyond that and make something that last for a few hours. Dauba tries to separate GRAW 2 as a different game than Gears of War, saying that GRAW 2 is aiming for something deeper and wider with a bigger scope.

Trying to save face, Dauba says that Gears of War is a very good game, but that the core gameplay is very simple. All you have to do is take cover, take aim and shoot in comparison with GRAW 2, which has a much deeper layer of tactical choices, he adds. According to him, the GRAW 2 environments are also very different, compared to Gears environments that are basically the same.

The interview also reveals that the multiplayer mode will play a much bigger part than in all other of GRAW 2's predecessors. The cooperative part was not left aside either, as Dauba reveals that it will also be much bigger.

When asked if Gears of War's sales are going to affect GRAW 2 sales, he responds that this is a thing that GRAW 2 will benefit from, as the Xbox 360 userbase will get larger and larger.

I guess that as long as people keep buying games, everyone is happy.
