The creator of Gears of War believes that Epic Games will try to shake up the formula if it creates any new sequels but that the studio could also return to first love Unreal for its next big project.

Speaking to the press after the unveiling of new intellectual property Fortnite at the VGA Cliff Bleszinski stated, “In the future, who knows? We would certainly love to make more experiences in the Gears universe. I want to make sure we switch it up sufficiently so it still feels like Gears DNA, but it feels fresh and new.”

The developer also believes that new Gears of War projects will remain exclusive to the Xbox 360 home console from Microsoft, even if other companies launch new gaming platforms in the coming years.

Bleszinki added, “It’s technically capable, but we have a good deal with Microsoft, so that’s the home of Gears for the foreseeable future. Business is business man. We could speculate about anything. What if streaming online services decided they wanted to make a great deal with us? Then Gears would be a streaming game. But as of right now, Microsoft’s been an amazing partner for us.”

The developer also says that Unreal, which was Epic Games first hit, might get a new entry in the coming years but that a reboot for the series might involve mechanics that are similar to those used in open world role playing game titles like new Fallout and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda.

Fortnite is the company’s first new intellectual property since Gears of War and has a very distinct style and set of mechanics.

Gamers will need to work together and collect garbage in order to create fortifications and then repel a number of alien invaders.

The game does not yet have a probable launch date.
