Gears of War 3 is set to sport, besides regular multiplayer modes, a cooperative Horde mode, just like the one in the previous game, but upgraded with lots of new features and options which have now been detailed by its developer, Epic Games.

Gears of War 3 is set to appear later this year, in September, and, until then, Epic Games, with the title's publisher, Microsoft, are working together in order to build up the hype around the upcoming release.

We've already seen a few details about the game's story mode, through a special video, while the multiplayer was showcased with the help of an online beta stage ran a few months ago.

Now, the special cooperative Horde mode is in the spotlight, with Epic releasing a video briefing on the major improvements in the new Horde 2.0 mode, narrated by none other than in-game character Anya Stroud.

Basically, the same premise that appeared in Gears of War 2 is back, with players needing to survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies, while working together as a team. In Gears 3, however, lots of things have been added on top of the usual experience, including the ability to built fortifications.

"During the short breaks between waves you will want to rearm, buy ammo, and fortify your position. Fortifications are brand new in Horde 2.0, and probably the most significant improvement. Earn cash by killing enemies and use that cash to purchase a variety of offensive, defensive, and decoy fortifications. Defensive fortifications, like fences, slow enemies down while decoys will trick your enemies into attacking them instead of you. Offensive fortifications, like turrets, sentries, and the powerful Silverback, can obliterate your enemy."

The game will also randomly give out bonus objectives to the players, which, if completed, nets them extra rewards.

"To sustain the effort, you occasionally receive bonus objectives. Look for these to pop up at the beginning of a wave to show you what the requirements are. Work as a team to accomplish the objective so all of you can reap the rewards. Bonus objectives are not required, but if you do complete them, you are rewarded with weapons, ammo, and more cash."

Last but not least, after every ten waves, players are going to encounter a boss wave, with the biggest creatures from the Locust or Lambent races, from Berserkers to Brumaks, trying to kill them
