The sequel is planned, heck...even the trilogy, but Gears 2 isn't confirmed

During his GDC speech last Wednesday, Epic designer Cliff Bleszinski stated that the company's team "intends to do a sequel" of Xbox 360's hit title, Gears of War. Obviously, it wasn't long after the web boasted with "official announcements of Gears of War2," though it wasn't exactly the case. You see, using the word "intend" doesn't confirm anything. The fact that they have it in the scope, yeah sure, whatever, but that's a different matter all together. They could be intending to make a soccer game for all we know, that doesn't mean that they're actually going to come up with it.

So naturally, someone had to step forward and make the necessary corrections. That person was none other than Epic's Mark Rein. Not only did he deny that Cliff Bleszinski had ever confirmed Gears of War 2, but also emphasized that he had already talked about a Gears of War trilogy: "Cliff didn't confirm anything of the sort[...] Gears is a trilogy? If we can keep making quality games that fans obviously want then why would we have to stop at three?"

So, there you have it. Not only it is going to be a trilogy, but if it goes well, they're not stopping there. So a second Gears of War is a certainty, but nothing official has been made yet, that's all. Though, I don't know why they're so offended by this. I mean, sure the web will be filled with headlines saying Gears 2 after such a statement, but why are they denying it strongly if a trilogy is planned for anyway? So they didn't mention a specific date, that doesn't mean it's not happening eventually.
