Following the introduction of its new NV-series of laptops for entertainment enthusiasts, Irvine, California-based Gateway also announced the expansion of its desktop PC offering with the introduction of a new, small form factor SX series and compact DX series mini-tower line. The new desktop PC families have been specifically designed to provide home users with an alternative computing solution that offers a mix between performance, value and compact design. Alongside the new series of desktop computer systems, Gateway will be showing off its FHD series of monitors for a complete computing offering for the end-user.

“Bigger isn’t necessarily better when it comes to desktop size, especially in a cramped dorm room,” Glenn Jystad, senior manager, desktop products, Gateway, said. “Our smaller models include more than enough capabilities and leading technologies for the vast majority of students and general consumers, and help save costs and space.”

With the launch of its new SX series of small form factor PCs, Gateway announced the introduction of the first model to sport this design feature. Dubbed SX2800-01, the new desktop PC comes with a starting price tag of US$499,99 and provides users with a choice for a Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor, integrated Intel X4500 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a 640GB hard drive and a Windows Vista Home 64-bit operating system.

The new DX series has been designed to cater to the needs of multimedia and entertainment enthusiasts, providing them with a choice for an AMD- or Intel-based configuration. With the debut of the new series, Gateway highlighted the first two models, the AMD-based DX4300-03 and the Intel-powered DX4820-02 mini tower PCs. While the first offers a mix of an AMD Phenom X4 9750 CPU with Radeon HD 4650 graphics and 8GB of RAM (DDR2), the second model includes an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce G210 GPU and also 8GB of memory (DDR3). Prices for the two systems start at an MSRP of US$749,99 and US$899,99, respectively.

Two FHD monitors are ready to complete Gateway's new computing offering, coming in a 21.5-inch and a 24-inch widescreen display. Both the FHD2102 and FHD2402 monitors are ready for full-HD 1080p resolutions and are featured with two integrated 2W speakers. Pricing for the two monitors starts at US$199,99 and US$269,99, respectively.
