Acer subsidiary Gateway announced today the introduction of its latest series of portable computer systems, designed to meet the performance requirements of entertainment enthusiasts. Dubbed the NV series, the new family of portable computer systems is said to provide users with a combination of the latest hardware on the market with a stylish exterior design. The system is highly customizable, providing users with choices for processors from Intel and AMD, as well as a number of color options for those looking to add a personal touch to their portable PC.

“The need to back-up data has never been greater, since consumers have a greater quantity of important digital content than ever before such as photos and video,” Ray Sawall, senior product marketing manager for Gateway, said. “With the Gateway NV notebook, customers have the MyBackup Button to conveniently protect their precious data to make sure it's available to enjoy and share more readily with friends, family, and online via social networks like Facebook and MySpace. All the additional features make it the ideal notebook to enjoy digital media, stay connected and productively handle projects for home, work and school.”

As part of the new series, the PC vendor launched two configurations, with the NV5214u designed to support AMD processors, while the NV5807u is meant to provide users with a choice for Intel hardware. The main difference between the first and the second model is that the NV5214u sports an Athlon 64 X2 QL-64 processor, clocked at 2.1GHz and paired with the ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip, while the second is designed on the Intel 4500MHD graphics and a Core 2 Duo T6500 CPU, also clocked at 2.1GHz.

Both systems are featured with a 15.6-inch HD display and boast 4GB of dual-channel DDR2 memory. A 320GB hard drive is available for your storage requirements, while additional features make up for the system's overall functionality. Each of the two NV-series laptops are featured with an integrated webcam, a DVD Super-Multi optical drive, wireless 802.11n connectivity, a media card reader, a six-cell battery pack and a Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 operating system. Designed for multimedia enthusiasts, the new laptops also boast an HDMI connector.

The manufacturer's suggested retail pricing starts at US$499,99 and US$599,99 for the NV5214u and the NV5807u, respectively. Color options include NightSky Black, Midnight Blue, Cherry Red, and Coffee Brown.
