Gateway, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acer Computers, has officially announced the release of its new, 11.6-inch mini-laptop, coming to provide users with a choice for a low-power AMD processor in a sleek, ultraportable form factor. The new system is on the boundary of a netbook and an ultraportable, ultrathin laptop, featuring a small form factor and a sub-$500 price tag. Designed as an alternative to all the other Intel Atom-powered systems currently available on the market, the new laptop comes as a total AMD-based solution.

Based on the AMD RS690E chipset, the new Gateway LT-series laptop has been featured with a low-power 1.2GHz (800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache) processor and the integrated Radeon X1270 graphics processor. The system is equipped with 2GB of single-channel DDR2 memory and a large 250GB hard drive, all within an elegant 11.6-inch design. The mini-laptop's display features an HD WXGA Ultrabright LED-backlit technology and can provide support for a resolution of 1366 by 768.

Additional features that have been enabled on Gateway's latest LT1300 laptop include the wireless 802.11 b/g and 10/100 Ethernet LAN connectivity, a multi-gesture touchpad, a multi-in-1 media card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports and a VGA connector, built-in speakers, a 0.3MP webcam, a six-cell Lithium Ion battery and a bundle of Microsoft software, including Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money Essentials, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.

Available in NightSky Black and Cherry Red color options, the new Gateway mini-laptop will be provided with a Windows Vista Basic operating system, replacing the more commonly used Windows XP, featured on the majority of Intel-based netbooks. As for pricing, the system is expected to become available for a starting price of US$400, setting it among the more affordable solutions on the market.
