Gateway already showcased the silver-colored Gateway ID notebooks, with Intel Core processors and NVIDIA graphics, but it seems to have more in store than just those Optimus-enabled machines. In fact, while the ID cater to the needs of the fashion-conscious market, the company supplied the budget segment with new models for the Gateway NV5 line. This collection of notebooks should be able to cope with any media playback, even on the go, as well as quick access to social networking outlets.

The NV5 Series notebooks have HD-ready Ultrabright LCD (liquid crystal display) panels with screen size of 15.6 inches. They are based on processors from Advanced Micro Devices and have 4GB of DDR3 memory, upgradeable to 8GB. Furthermore, the mobile personal computers come with hard drives of up to 500 GB and media card readers compatible with Secure Digital, Multimedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and xD.

“Mobile entertainment means something entirely different today than it did just a few short years ago -- more often it comes in the form of video clips, photos and updates on friends’ and fan pages by using popular social networking sites and tools,” said Chris Chiang, retail product marketing manager, Gateway. “The Gateway NV5 Series notebook line is well-equipped to let customers have quick access to their entertainment and social networks with easy-to-use technology, such as the latest Wi-Fi and HD webcam.”

“Ideal for today’s style-conscious mobile PC users, the new Gateway NV5 Series models feature an elegant and modern design that is crisp and uncluttered. The systems feature a subtle wave pattern on the matte chassis lid. Plus, the combination of matte and glossy finishes create a contemporary blend of contrasts,” the press release states.

Unfortunately, Gateway did not say exactly when the devices will start selling, but it did indicate that retail prices will start at CAD $499.99.
