Since ASUS pretty much covered the netbook space today, Gateway decided to address another market segment, that of notebooks that put equal emphasis on performance and aesthetics. The new series that saw the light of day is the Gateway ID and is composed of several mobile PCs that offer such benefits as Intel processing and NVIDIA Optimus technology. They are mostly aimed at those that want advanced capabilities inside a unique and striking frame.

Three laptop models are detailed, namely the 14-inch ID49, the 15.6-inch ID59 and the 17.3-inch ID79. All of them feature an HD Ultrabright LED-backlit display and either an Intel Core i3 or Core i5 at their heart. 4GB of DDR3 memory are also present, expandable to 8GB if users so desire. Furthermore, a hard disk drive brings up to 640GB of storage to the equation.

The panel of the ID79 has a native resolution of 1,600 x 900 pixels, whereas the others settle for 1,366 x 768 pixels. Not only that, but select models of the new Gateway ID49 Series even boast the NVIDIA Optimus technology, which can automatically switch between the Integrated graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M..

“Notebooks are more than ever an expression of who we are and what’s important to us,” said Chris Chiang, retail product marketing manager, Gateway.

“The look and feel of the Gateway ID Series notebooks is so unique that anyone will be drawn to them and will then enjoy the notebooks’ advanced capabilities and entertainment features. And with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics with Optimus technology, consumers can experience improved graphics performance when it matters, backed by battery life preservation for longer use,” he added.

The silver-colored newcomers are already selling for a variety of budgets. The 14-inch machines start at CAD $609.99, whereas the ID59 (15.6 inches) and ID79 (17.3 inch) start at CAD $699.99 and CAD $1049.99, respectively.
