On Tuesday, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is expected to go official with a new tablet PC running under Google's Android operating system, the Galaxy Tab 8.9. Already teased a few times before, and rumored to become official as soon as this week, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 has just been confirmed, only several hours before it would be formally introduced at the CTIA Wireless expo in Orlando, Florida.

The new device should be placed somewhere between the already unveiled Galaxy Tab flavors, namely the 7-inch original Tab, and the larger Galaxy Tab 10.1, since it would sport an 8.9-inch touchscreen display.

The new device would run under Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, though Samsung would certainly include its own user interface on top of the new operating system.

According to leaked shots that emerged over at Pocketnow, the new tablet PC would boast a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

Moreover, the new device is expected to be only 8.6mm thin, which would also reduce its weight to only 470 grams.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 should include a dual-core application processor with each core clocked in at 1GHz, but most of the other hardware specifications it would arrive on shelves with are shrouded in mystery for the time being.

Based on previous rumors on this device, we should expect it to pack dual-band Wi-Fi support too, as well as Bluetooth, a front-facing camera for video calling, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the like.

Of course, specific info on the exact market availability or pricing of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 lacks at the moment, though it should all become official as soon as tomorrow.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung already announced several weeks ago that it would launch a new product at CTIA on March 22nd, during a Samsung Unpacked event, which would be related to a Tab device. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
