Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone in the world to run under the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, will become available in Australia as soon as tomorrow, on the airwaves of wireless carrier Telstra.

The operator has just announced plans to carry the new mobile phone starting with December 14th, and confirmed that it would be available both online and via its brick and mortar stores.

Starting tomorrow, Tesltra customers will be able to snag the new device online on the carrier’s website, and from Telstra's flagship Sydney and Melbourne stores (Telstra Store, 400 George St, Sydney; Androidland, Telstra Store, 246 Bourke St, Melbourne).

Other wireless carriers in Australia also unveiled plans to add the new mobile phone to their offering, including Optus and Vodafone, both of which have kicked off pre-orders for it.

However, it appears that Telstra will have it first, since reservations at Optus will be shipped only on December 20th.

At Telstra, the Galaxy Nexus will become available for purchase for $10 per month with a $69 per month plan (a minimum cost over 24 months of $1,656). The wireless carrier unveiled all of the necessary details on the handset’s pricing in a recent blog post. Galaxy Nexus arrives on shelves in Australia with a variety of cutting edge capabilities packed inside, starting with the new OS flavor and going all the way to the connectivity features Samsung and Google included with it.

Some of the main features of the new device include:

- The world's first phone to use the latest Android 4.0 software (Ice Cream Sandwich) - Massive 4.65" High Definition display with vivid colors and stunning clarity - 1.2Ghz dual core processor for lightning fast web browsing, downloads and online streaming - 5 mega-pixel camera with full HD Video Recording

The smartphone also comes with support for a variety of applications and games, as well as for mobile services that Google has put in place for its Android users.
