14 DAY TRIAL // Until not long ago, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and her model boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, made one of the most beautiful and seemingly strong couples in showbiz. A few days ago, word got out in the media that the two had pulled the plug on their 5-year affair, for reasons that were not detailed. In a statement to People magazine, Aubry says he’s deeply saddened by the breakup.
He doesn’t say what led to the split, let alone comment on allegations that Halle threw him out because he did not want to commit to the relationship or that he had called it quits after he realized the age gap between them was too big. Still, Aubry makes it a point to stress that there are many inaccuracies in the way the media reported the split and that he and Halle remain friends, while he will always consider her a wonderful woman whom he’ll love for as long as he lives.
“Although Gabriel Aubry and Halle Berry have split up, the model says he has nothing but love and respect for the actress, with whom he has a 2-year-old daughter. ‘While I will not comment on all of the wild inaccuracies being speculated about in the media, I am sad to say that Halle and I have decided together to separate at this time,’ Aubry, a model, confirmed Friday in a statement to Access Hollywood released through his agency, Wilhelmina Models,” People magazine writes.
“Reports of the couple’s break up first began circulating widely on Friday. Berry’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment. Aubry says of his Oscar winning ex, ‘She is, and will forever be, one of the most special and beautiful people that I have ever known, and I am certain that we will continue to have only love and respect for one another.’ The couple are putting daughter Nahla first, according to the model. ‘Her happiness and well-being are the most important thing for both of us,’ Aubry says. ‘Please respect our privacy during this very difficult time’,” the magazine further writes, citing the model’s statement.
When rumors of the split first started to circulate, it was said that Halle and Gabriel had already reached an agreement as regards the custody of their daughter and the property they hold together. Today’s glossy mags and celebrity blogs are saying that whatever agreement the two may have, it is only temporary.
