As one would have expected, G-Technology, a Hitachi subsidiary, most certainly did not stop by the NAB 2011 event in las Vegas with just one portable HDD, having also delivered several HDDs, among other things.

The NAB event in Las Vegas each acts as the gathering place for many IT companies around the world.

While not as big or media-covered as the CES and CeBIT shows, it still gets enough attention that IT players like G-Technology demonstrate whole portfolios there.

This year, the NAB 2011 saw G-Technology showing off several Hitachi solutions, one of which we have already covered here (it is a portable HDD).

Besides that, the outfit produced the G-DRIVE, the RAID 1 G-SAFE and RAID 0 G-RAID.

These three solutions have storage capacities of 3TB (6 TB for the RAID 0 G-RAID) and bear manufacturer suggested retail prices (MSRPs) of $449.99, $699.99 and $749.99, respectively.

Basically, G-Technology put on display multiple devices that make use of one or more Hitachi HDD with a capacity of 3 TB and a rotary speed of 7,200 RPM (rotations per minute).

These aren't even the only devices of their type that the outfit provided. There are also models with four bays, priced at $2,299.99 to $3,299.99.

They are the 12TB G-SPEED Q, the G-SPEED eS and the G-SPEED eS Pro.

The press release describes all of these as most suited for those “looking for rock-solid, reliable and fast storage that can meet the rigors of [one's] crazy production schedule.”

Basically, it works twice as fast as USB 3.0 and is supposed to be able to scale much higher. The other reason G-Technology stopped by NAB 2011 was so that it could show its support for Intel's Thunderbolt technology.

Promoted as an alternative to the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard, it has a dual-channel performance of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) (supports PCIe and DisplayPort protocols over a single cable).
