Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the recent Tomb Raider reboot, has confirmed that it will continue the story started in this recent game and that protagonist Lara Croft will have to face even bigger challenges in the future.

The new Tomb Raider game restarted the franchise and put players in the shoes of a younger and less experienced version of Lara Croft, the heroine of the series.

While not even a month has passed since the game came out, it's already a big success, so developer Crystal Dynamics is already charting out the future of the rebooted series.

According to the studio's Global Brand Director, Karl Stewart, who talked with fans on Reddit, the goal of the current game was to show Lara's evolution and future titles will certainly amp up the challenge.

"The goal of this vision was to introduce you to a story of how Lara becomes an adventurer and a true Croft. Future games will be defined by who Lara has become as a result of who she is at the end of this experience," he told fans.

What's more, Crystal's Creative Director, Noah Hughes, also mentioned that the next game would continue, based on the events of the current one, as Lara would explore the clues she found on the island. What's more, he also confirmed that the non-linear spaces seen in the game will continue to be used.

"In terms of where we go next, we cannot answer too directly, but now that Lara has survived the Island she can follow the clues that she found on the Island. In terms of the non-linear spaces, we were really happy with this aspect of the design and how it catered to player-driven exploration. This is somthing we are excited to continue and evolve," he said.

Don't expect any new adventures for Lara Croft anytime soon, as the developer already mentioned that DLC for the current game won't bring any new single-player missions or tombs.
