Samsung Electronics and Melodis Corporation announced recently a partnership through which future mobile phones that the South Korean maker will deliver to the market running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system will also include Melodis Corporation's Midomi music search and ID application. The software solution is meant to offer users the possibility to identify music by simply holding the device towards a speaker or by humming in snippets.

Midomi comes to Samsung's Windows Mobile phones with its Sound2Sound Search Science technology. According to the developing company, the search engine searches sound against sound and can ignore the sound to text conversion techniques that are traditionally used, even at times when it is searching through text databases. Moreover, the company says, the new app can provide enhanced accuracy, as well as faster response times and improved scalability.

“We are very pleased to partner with Samsung to make our music search and ID technology available to Windows Mobile users,” said Amir Arbabi, vice president of Business Development, Melodis. “Midomi is a truly global product designed for deployment in multiple languages and on multiple platforms. Samsung's launch of Midomi-enabled handsets represents the first step in what we see as a long-term, worldwide collaboration between our two companies.”

The partnership between the two companies should offer Samsung's customers the possibility to take full advantage of the multimedia capabilities of the company's handsets through the use of Midomi. Moreover, the partnership is also seen as a step forward in a quest to offer customers the means to perform searches by sound and speech, whether they use mobile or IP-connected devices.

Melodis also adds that there are millions of people around the world using its Midomi application, either via web or mobile devices. Moreover, the company says that those who use its solution can also purchase music through the integration with wireless carriers' music stores.
