Tyan just announced that it has completed validating 160GB and 640GB ioDrives from Fusion-io in two of the company's most powerful HPC computing motherboards released until now, the S7025 and S8232, so the PCI Express SSDs are guaranteed to be compatible with a wide series of operating systems and applications when paired together with these two boards.

The 160GB version of the ioDrive is built using SLC memory cells and can reach read speeds of up to 770MB/s while the write transfer rate is estimated by the company at 750MB/s.

Furthermore, the SSD is able to deliver 140,000 read and 135,000 write IOPS, when 512B files are used, and has an access latency of just 26µs.

On the other hand, the larger 640GB drive is built using MLC NAND flash and can reach about the same read speeds as the company's smaller capacity drive (750MB/s), but has lower write performances as it is limited at 550MB/s.

Random read performance is also lower as the drive supports only 93,000 IOPS, but the random write speed has been increased to reach a maximum 145,000 IOPS. Both PCI Express SSDs use the PCIe x4 interface.

“Moving active data from centralized storage to the server where it is being processed significantly enhances data center efficiency and reliability,” said Marius Tudor, Fusion-io’s senior director of Strategic Partners and Channels.

Tyan’s qualification of Fusion’s ioMemory technology demonstrates increasing mainstream recognition of the need for data decentralization in the 21st Century data center.

“We look forward to our teams’ ongoing collaboration,” concluded the company's rep.

As far as Tyan's platforms are concerned, the S7025 motherboard can support a pair of Intel Xeon 5500/5600 series Westmere processors and features four double-wide PCIe Gen2 x16 slots as well as two GbE ports, six SATA-II ports, audio, VGA, nine USB ports, IPMI, and optional SAS.

The second motherboard, the S8232, supports two AMD Opteron 6100-series 12-core processors and up to 24 (12+12) DDR3 DIMMs as well as four double-wide PCIe Gen2 x16 slots.
