Fujitsu announced that it has been selected by NTT DoCoMo to develop and manufacture prototypes and commercial equipment for DoCoMo's super 3G wireless base stations.

As the Long Term Evolution specification is being promoted as an international standard by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), super 3G is expected to improve 3G cellular system performance exponentially. Super 3G enables fast mobile communications, with downlink transmission rates of over 100 Mbps and uplink rates of over 50 Mbps, and is expected to provide an advanced environment for services such as high-speed video distribution as well as enable improved spectrum utilization.

Fujitsu has been actively involved in the 3GPP's standardization initiatives from the outset, and has been developing the fundamental technologies required to improve spectrum efficiency for the Super 3G standard, such as multi-antenna system and OFDM technologies. In addition, Fujitsu has already been providing high-performance systems utilizing under the current 3G standard, such as amplifiers featuring high levels of efficiency.

Along with further strengthening its partnership with DoCoMo, Fujitsu is looking toward global expansion of its business as a global provider of mobile solutions.
