Avago Technologies announced the availability of its ACPM-7886 TD-SCDMA-based power amplifier modules for the Chinese market. The product enables handset manufacturers to produce 3G cell phones with a longer battery life. The modules have been selected by the chipset provider Commit for its next-generation of TD-SCDMA/GSM phones.

TD-SCDMA is one of the three 3G wireless standards pursued by the Chinese government. TD-SCDMA is compatible with GSM networks and is a combination of CDMA and TDMA technologies. The new standard increases spectrum efficiency and is well suited for data-intensive applications, such as video and photo images.

"Avago has a solid track record in delivering high quality products that enable us to create the handsets that consumers want to use," said Andy Yang, marketing director of Commit. "The ACPM-7886 gives us a design advantage in this highly competitive market."

Avago's ACPM-7886 power amplifiers provide phones with a longer battery life. Also, due to their reduced size, they can be used to produce handsets with slim designs. The first phones equipped with ACPM-7886 modules are expected to ship in 2006.
